Advance as Tolerated

A newsletter about all things medical education.

Thoughts. Musings. Insights. Advice. Feedback worth paying attention to.

Takeaways from the last newsletter:

How do you get better feedback when you can't change how people give it?

1. Ask for advice: people enjoy giving advice and may shy away from giving formal feedback.  Invite them into your journey by asking them for advice rather than passively awaiting their input.

2. Clarify expectations early: identify the fundamental skills or knowledge that someone in your position should know entering and leaving the rotation.

3. Explore the exemplar: discover the attributes and skills of someone who truly exceeds expectations and use those to develop goals you can work towards.
